PUNI distillery, named after the near by river, is the only Whisky distillery in Italy. It was built by the Ebensperger family, with Albrecht Ebensperger laying the first stone in the foundations in 2010. Puni is a stunningly built distillery situated near he Ortler mountain range in the Alps. Known as the “Highlands of Italy” this is a perfect location to distil and mature quality whisky. The copper pot stills were crafted in the whisky capital of the world, Speyside in Scotland and transported to the beautiful distillery, built also under the guidance of Scottish whisky experts, where they started running in the Spring of 2012.
The mash bill for this fine whisky is made up of a combination of 3 different malted grains barley, wheat and rye. This is to give thee spirit a unique and inspiring flavour and character profile. Barley for the malty, spiciness. Wheat for the sweetness and rye for body and depth.
For the maturation of the Puni spirit some of the casks are matured in ex-military bunkers, used in the Second World War. The reason is that the bunkers are perfect for keeping the temperature and humidity to constant levels…creating the best maturing atmosphere. It is also a cool story!
ALBA.
Named ALBA for 3 reasons. 1st as Alba is Scottish Gaelic for Scotland and 2nd It translates in Dawn in Italian. Representing a new begining. 3rd, Alba after “Quercus alba”, Latin for white oak, which the american barrels are made of, for maturing most whisky around the world.
This expression is matured for 3 years in Marsala cask from Sicily and then finished in handpicked casks from the island of Islay..(.ex-Ardbeg casks…shhhhhh, don’t tell the world!)
This whisky is an adventure that you need to go on! Trust me.
