Knockando is Gaelic for ‘little black hill’ and this distillery was the first in Speyside to use electricity for lighting. The distillery also had its own Railway station on the line that ran east from Grantown-on-spey. Knockando is currently owned by Diageo which was purchased in 1997 when Grand Met merged with Guinness. The distilleries source of water comes from Cardnach Spring and the distillery produces 1,300,000 litres of whisky annually. Only about 13,000 litres is used to make single malt the rest being used in blended varieties. Knockando distillery is situated in Aberlour a small town in Banffshire, 27 kilometres west of Keith.
