Johnnie Walker Blue Ghost & Rare Port Dundas Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)

Volume: 750ml          ABV: 43.8%          Age: No Age Statement          Country: Scotland

The brand Johnnie Walker was first created in 1820 by John Walker, a green grocer from Kilmarnock in Scotland. The Excise Act was introduced in 1823 relaxing strict laws on distillation and reduced the heavy taxes on distillation and the sale of whisky. John Walker sold blended malt and grain whiskies from his grocery store and as he did not have a brand of his own started to use his own name on the labels selling the blended malt as ‘Walker’s Kilmarnock Whisky.  In 1860 the brand’s signature logo was introduced by Alexander Walker, a square bottle. This meant more bottles could fit into the same space and the bottles were less likely to break. The label was also introduced where it was applied at an angle of 24 degrees upwards left to right and allowed text to be made larger and more visible.

The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series explores rare whiskies within the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves. Each release offers an opportunity to savor whiskies from “ghost” distilleries that have long-since closed, but whose spirit still lives on in the dwindling stocks of their maturing Scotch.

Handcrafted using just eight of the rarest whiskies from the reserves, at the heart of this release are exceptional whiskies from the “ghost” distillery of Port Dundas. This famous Grain Whisky distillery shipped its distinct Scotch across the world for nearly 200 years. Built in 1811, Port Dundas closed its doors in 2010. Only the rarest and most distinctive casks of maturing whisky from Port Dundas were selected alongside other ‘ghost’ whiskies from Cambus and Brora distilleries and exceptional rare single malts.

To commemorate this release, Johnnie Walker has commissioned world-renowned generative A.I. artist Ivona Tau to create an exclusive Ghost & Rare artwork NFT.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Creamy vanilla and a whisper of wood spice.

Palate: Creamy, wood notes from Port Dundas embrace the vanilla and soft smoke from the “ghost” whiskies of Cambus and original stocks of Brora. Other very rare whiskies from Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie reveal notes of spiced apples alongside Clynelish, Dailuaine and Auchroisk, bringing aromas of peaches and berries.

Finish: Red berries and a lingering wisp of smoke.
