Glengoyne Russell Family Cask Aged 36 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 50.7%           Age: 36 Years Old          Country: Scotland

The Glengoyne Distillery is certainly one of Scotland’s hidden secrets when it comes to great single malt. Situated only a short drive away from Glasgow in Dumgoyne, it has an excellent visitors centre. The unique identity this distillery has is that the whisky is produced in the ‘Highland’ region of Scotland and the whisky is matured in the ‘Lowland’ region of Scotland. The road out the front of the distillery is known as the ‘Highland Line’ the division between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland. Established in 1833 as the ‘Burnfoot’ distillery it boasts a great range of aged single malt. Glengoyne Distillery translates to ‘Glen of the Wild Geese’. It has also been made famous by its place in the movie Angles’ Share.

Following a very enjoyable Sunday lunch at owner Peter Russell’s house, Tom, also an owner at Glengoyne, produced some Glengoyne Single Cask samples for the family to try. This specific cask number 1549 stood out as being of absolute remarkable quality. It is the only cask the three generations of the Russell’s have unanimously chosen to bottle and celebrates three generations of Russell’s working together in the business.

The Russell Family Cask is a Glengoyne Single Cask personally selected by the 3 generations of the IMD owners – Peter, Leonard and Tom. This 36yo Refill Sherry Butt is decadent and rewarding with a long finish showing the cask and spirit in harmony after over 36 years in the Glengoyne warehouses. A very limited release of only 402 bottles of one of Glengoyne’s oldest whiskies ever released.
