Glengoyne Aged 10 Years Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 40% Age: 10 Years Old Country: Scotland
The Glengoyne Distillery is certainly one of Scotland’s hidden secrets when it comes to great single malt. Situated only a short drive away from Glasgow in Dumgoyne, it has an excellent visitors centre. The unique identity this distillery has is that the whisky is produced in the ‘Highland’ region of Scotland and the whisky is matured in the ‘Lowland’ region of Scotland. The road out the front of the distillery is known as the ‘Highland Line’ the division between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland. Established in 1833 as the ‘Burnfoot’ distillery it boasts a great range of aged single malt. Glengoyne Distillery translates to ‘Glen of the Wild Geese’. It has also been made famous by its place in the movie Angles’ Share.
An award winning single malt which has been matured for no less than ten years using a mix of first-fill sherry, refill sherry, and ex-bourbon casks, although its whisky is immediately recognisable as a ‘sherried’ Highland whisky. The casks are hand-selected to ensure quality of not only flavour but natural colour. The darkness of the earth floor warehouses, creates a wonderful deep copper hue and rich mouthfeel. It is the perfect balance of oak, traditional skills and barley dried by air, never peat.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich and luxurious. Hints of vanilla and creamy red fruits, freshly made vanilla sponge with raspberries. Rich sherry notes, lightly toasted almonds and a dusting of cocoa.
Palate: Signature apple and oranges, perhaps burnt orange peel. More red fruits emerge with plenty of balanced oak and spices. Butterscotch sweeties, digestive biscuits and salted butter.
Finish: Presenting a medium to long length finish. Toasted almonds, Christmas cake sweetness, cinnamon and honey.
