The Glen Scotia distillery is situated in Campbeltown on Scotland’s Mull of Kintyre peninsula and is owned by the Loch Lomond Group. It was founded in 1832 and has been operating for approximately one hundred and eighty years. It has stood the sands of time whilst the distilleries of Campbeltown have fallen to the ups and downs in the industry this distillery has continued to produce excellent spirit. Formally known as ‘Scotia’ the distillery was owned by Stewart & Galbraith and Company for 60 years. It was then purchased by Duncan MacCallum. In 2014 is was purchased by the Loch Lomond Group who have invested in the distillery heavily. Ian McAllister the distillery manager operates the distillery with just seven staff producing around 600,000 litres of spirit annually. Being one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland with only one 16,000 litre wash still and one 12,000 litre spirit still. They produce both peated and unpeated single malt.
The Double Cask is matured in the finest first fill bourbon barrels before being finished for up to twelve months in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks producing this outstanding single malt whisky that provides the perfect balance of rich spicy fruits, overlaid with the characteristic sea spray and vanilla oak finish for which the house of Glen Scotia is famous.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Stewed peaches and apples drizzled with hot caramel fudge, barrel char and spice.
Palate: Caramel fudge leads to candy floss and butternut biscuits. Oily with a touch of mint and spice.
Finish: Drying Sherry notes.
