Fascadale 14 Years Old Batch 10 Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Adelphi (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 46%           Age: 14 Years Old            Country: Scotland

Adelphi exist to identify the very small number of casks that have produced the ultimate whiskies. The criteria for selection include rarity and maturity, but above all flavour. These whiskies are both rare and sought-after – these very special casks are so rare that, on average, Adelphi accepts a mere 4% that it is offered. Each single cask of whisky matures its contents very differently, imparting its own character to the whisky it holds and, as a result, there are never two Adelphi’s quite the same.

Adelphi’s Fascadale has been distilled at Highland Park Distillery and aged for 14 years in Oloroso Sherry casks.

Highland Park remains the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland, although not by much, as it is little more than a stone’s throw from fellow Orcadian, Scapa. Accounts of the distillery’s genesis vary, and the truth is probably lost to the mists of time, but it is thought that a local farmer named David Robertson founded what we now know as Highland Park distillery in 1798, on the site of an illicit still operated by nefarious smuggler (and former priest) Magnus Eunson. Since its introduction as a single malt in the late 1970s, the distillery has been awarded many plaudits, not least of which came from the late, great whisky writer Michael Jackson, who called it “the greatest all rounder in the world of whisky”. It’s characteristic style coming from the use of Sherry casks, along with an often cited heathery sweetness imparted to the spirit by way of the distinct Orcadian peat used during the malting process.

The Fascadale has been bottled at 46% ABV, only 1498 bottles produced.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Summer fruits and barley before notes of oak.

Palate: Lots of bold malt meets peaches and cream, with a touch of smoky spice.

Finish: Apple pie with a smoky note at the end.
