Bladnoch 17 Years Old Californian Red Wine Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 46.7% Age: 17 Years Old Country: Scotland
The distillery was founded in 1817 by Thomas McClelland, and remained in the family’s hands till 1930 when it was acquired by the Belfast Distilling Company. Once distilling as part of Bell’s, Bladnoch has been shaped under the guise of various owners during its almost 200 year history. It was in 2014 when the distillery was placed into receivership that Australian Entrepreneur David Prior decided to purchase the distillery with the deal going through in 2015. A complete refurbishment then took place and brought the distilleries production back online alongside celebrated Master Distiller Ian MacMillan. Casks that have sat in the warehouses for many years maturing are now being used to create some very unique and memorable whiskies. Bladnoch produces a light, grassy and malty Lowland-style malt. The whisky being released from the distillery at the current moment is from the Raymond Armstrong era when a more delicate style was introduced with some peated malt also being used in production.
The Bladnoch 17 years old has spent most of its life maturing in ex Bourbon barrels before being given some time to finish in ex Californian red wine casks. This has created a whisky with layers of fruit and rich in character. Bottled at 46.7% abv and no colouring or chillfiltration has been used.
