The Benrinnes Distillery first produced spirit back in 1826 and was known originally between 1974 and 2007 for producing a partially triple distilled spirit. The distillery itself has been through a tough time, fires and floods have meant it has been rebuilt a number of times and been through a few owners. The distillery is now owned by Diageo and it is used for their well known blends. It was first well known though for producing spirit for use in Crawford’s blended whiskies and was known for its 15 year old vintage.
Adelphi exist to identify the very small number of casks that have produced the ultimate whiskies. The criteria for selection include rarity and maturity, but above all flavour. These whiskies are both rare and sought-after – these very special casks are so rare that, on average, Adelphi accepts a mere 4% that it is offered. Each single cask of whisky matures its contents very differently, imparting its own character to the whisky it holds and, as a result, there are never two Adelphi’s quite the same.
This single malt whisky was distilled in 2009 at the Benrinnes distillery before being placed in a first fill Sherry cask and left to mature for 10 years. In 2020 it was bottled at 55.9% abv as part of the Adelphi Selection. The Benrinnes distillery is known for producing whisky that is meaty and and heavy, think Dailuaine, Mortlach and Cragganmore.
Only 589 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.
