Ben Nevis McDonald’s Traditional Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 46% Age: No Age Statement Country: Scotland
This Single Malt is very full bodied. It’s based on the original recipe of the Single Malt whisky that the founder of the Ben Nevis Distillery created in their time. The malt for this expression is sourced from Port Ellen Malting’s on Islay, at around 35 ppm. The whisky is at least five years old, but the bottle itself has no age statement. No caramel colouring, the rich and dark colour arrives from the relatively high amounts of charcoal in the whisky. And you can taste that! It’s not really a peaty taste, but has more like a charcoal-esque flavour to it………… some information taken from ‘whiskysaga’.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: First toffee springs to mind, plenty of dry smoke, there’s also a honey richness which is balanced very well. Marzipan and raw almonds, very nice nose indeed.
Taste: Extremely smooth and easy drinking. The the first mouth-full there’s plenty of honey and smoke as well as salted butter and peanuts. Rich, sweet and mouth-coating.
Finish: The peanuts are still hanging around as is the salted butter and smoke. More toffee and a little hint of vanilla. Milk chocolate perhaps. An enjoyable dram.
