Arran Machrie Moor 10 Years Old Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 46% Age: 10 Years Country: Scotland
“Welcome to one of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland”. The Isle of Arran distillery was build in 1995 and is now one of two distilleries on the Isle of Arran on Scotland’s West Coast. The distillery boasts an ideal spot for production and distribution of whisky with warm fresh sea air, close proximity to the mainland and an abundance of fresh soft water. In the early 19th century, there were more than 50 whisky distilleries on Arran, most of them illegal and carefully hidden from the eyes of the taxmen. The Island’s malt whisky was shipped to the mainland and enjoyed by the gentry, who regularly ‘took the Arran waters’. It was acclaimed at the time as the best whisky in Scotland – only rivalled by those from the ‘Glen of Livet’
Since 2004, Arran have produced a batch of peated malt whisky at the same time every year. It was first released in limited edition batches under the brand name Machrie Moor which is the name of the peat moor on the west coast of Arran. The barley is malted to a level of 20 ppm (phenol parts per million) to ensure that the Arran character is not lost amidst a sea of peat-smoke. Bottled at 46% abv without chill filtration, the end result is a wonderful balanced dram with sweet-fruit at the front of the palate followed by lingering peat on the finish. Delicious and warming, like the embers of a bonfire.
This Machrie Moor expression has been matured for 10 years in first fill bourbon casks before being bottled at 46% ABV.
