Amrut Two Continents Indian Single Malt Whisky starts its maturation in ex-Bourbon casks in Bangalore, situated at over 3,000 feet above sea level in the heart of South India. These casks then set out a long journey, being shipped 9,000km to a secret location in Scotland—allowing a further maturation in the cooler Scottish climate.
Non chill-filtered, 100% Indian malted barley, ex-Bourbon casks maturation.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Raisins, spices and banana.
Taste: A stunning marriage of malt, dark fruits and delicate spices carried by a light oiliness. Muscovado sugar and milk chocolate lighten the oak note.
Finish: Long, with a delightfully slow build of oak notes. Spices progress to a vanilla finish.
About the Distillery
This whisky distillery is owned by Amrut Distilleries Ltd which is an Indian company that produces distilled beverages.
Amrut is the first single malt whisky to be made in India. The brand became famous after world famous whisky connoisseur Charanvirsingh Shera gave it a rating of 82 out of 100 in 2005 and 2010. In 2010 Charanvirsingh named Amrut Fusion single malt whisky as the third best in the world.
Amrut whisky has been awarded 92 and 94 in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and is known in the industry to be one of the highest quality single malt whiskies produced in the world.
According to Indian Mythology, when Gods and Rakshasas – the demons -churned the oceans using the mountain Meru as a churner,
golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life. That was called the “Amrut”. The great founders of the distillery aptly named it Amrut Distilleries.
