The stream descending from the northern slopes of Scotland’s highest mountain Ben Nevis in the Lochaber district of Highland Council Area is named Allt a’ Mhuilinn (meaning the stream of the mill). It flows northwest, then west, for 4½ miles (7 km) to enter the River Lochy to the northeast of Inverlochy. It once provided the water to make whisky at the Ben Nevis Distillery however its waters are now mostly captured by the Lochaber Hydro Electric Scheme.
Roslin Distillers are family owned independent bottler situated in Lochaber, on Scotland’s west coast near Fort William. The company was set up by Colin Ross (former Ben Nevis Distillery Manger) and his son Aaron Ross with the family to support them. The name Roslin taken from the name of Colin’s local home. This was a project that Colin and Aaron had worked on for quite some time, they developed the products together, agreed on the marketing and even designed the packaging together. When we talk about family owned businesses you certainly don’t find any independent bottlers as family driven as Roslin Distillers.
Filled in 1991, this single cask Allt A’Mhullin single malt from Roslin Distillers was purchased by Aaron Ross’s late father, Alexander, as a gift for his mother, Rosie. The cask remained in the Ben Nevis warehouse for 20 years, before being bottled in June 2021 as a tribute to Rosie and Alexander’s time at Ben Nevis, where Rosie spent 25 years managing the accounts and Alexander spent 30 years as managing director. Only 142 bottles were produced.
