Tamdhu Quercus Alba Distinction Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 48%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: Scotland Founded in 1896 the Tamdhu Distillery was created by a group of assemblers who were looking to engage in their own whisky production. Situated in Knockando, Banffshire, Scotland the distilleries name comes from the Gaelic for little dark hill. The distillery operated for many years before being closed between 1927 and 1947. Boasting 3 wash stills and 3 spirits stills the distillery produces around 4 million litres of pure alcohol per year, this is not a small distillery.  Owned and operated by Ian MacLeod Distillers it is primarily used for producing blended whisky such as Famous Grouse, J & B and Cutty Sark. The majority of its single malt is now being matured in European oak or American oak ex sherry casks. This recently released limited edition Tamdhu celebrates the distilleries unique cask maturation in detail. Using American oak ex-Sherry casks which originate from the oak forests of North America. These casks are imported into Spain where they are carefully crafted in the ‘sherry triangle’ over the course of six years. The casks are left to air dry in the Mediterranean sun then they are assembled and toasted by some of the most experienced coopers in the world. The csks are then seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. The Sherry is emptied out of the casks before they make their way to the Tamdhu distillery and filled with new make spirit. The spirit then combines with the Oloroso Sherry oak which, through time, delivers a whisky full of rich fruits and melted chocolate and rich warm oak. Bottled at 48% ABV and limited to being released in only specialist whisky retailers in 6 different countries across the globe. Slight peat smoke level of 0.25ppm.
