Amrut Cask Strength Indian Single Malt Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 61.8%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: India

According to Indian Mythology, when Gods and Rakshasas – the demons – churned the oceans using the mountain Meru as a churner, a golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life. That was called the “Amrut”. The great founders of the distillery aptly named it Amrut Distilleries.

Amrut Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is a product of many years research to produce whiskies matching world standards. The whisky is made from selected Indian barley grown at the feet of the Himalayas, nurtured by the waters flowing there and cultivated by old and traditional agricultural practises. It is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aroma and matured in oak barrels in a unique tropical condition, at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level at Bangalore, the garden city of India. This exclusive bottling of Amrut Cask Strength Single Malt offers the connoisseur the rare opportunity to sample this Treasure of India

To retain the natural characteristics of this oak aged Indian Malt Whisky, they do not chill filter and it comes straight from the barrel in its natural colour.

This whisky received 92pts in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and if you are looking to explore the world of Indian Whisky this is a great place to start your journey.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Classic house style with glorious bourbon notes fused with the richness of barley statements; not entirely unlike caramelised biscuit dunked in coffee; oh, and a bit of spicy attitude, too…..

Palate: There we go with that unique bitter-sweet overture where the oaks and barley appear joined at the hip; lovely soft oils and then a sharp jolt of blood orange citrus, which is removed by something more buttery and delicate.

Finish: Long, elegant with the most intricate of fades with the oaks showing various bourbon then buttery characteristics; there is a trace of dark sugar and cocoa to help it along its way.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Freshly milled barley comes to mind, lots of glorious bourbon notes with sweet vanillas and a little citrus. Like standing in a working mill room of a distillery with pannacotta on the stove and freshly made marmalade being created in the background

Palate: The nose stays with you as you take a sip mixing with the soft oily texture and again plenty of citrus. Orange peel and crushed cashews are making an appearance now but the malted barley on the palate dominates and is truly superb.

Finish: A long, long finish which remains very malty and lingers in the mouth, the oils are dancing on the tongue, a delicious single malt.
