On September 7th 2015 the Kilchoman distillery released its first 7 year old whisky. It’s amazing to think this distillery is only releasing whiskies at the 7 year mark and that they are so young. Situated on an Island that’s been producing whisky for centuries.

The single malt is matured in fresh ex American bourbon barrels which were filled in July 2008 under the watchful eyes of Anthony Wills.

‘The 2008 Vintage is a classic bourbon barrel aged Kilchoman however the additional maturation has added layers of soft fruit and sweetness not seen in previous releases.  This latest vintage release makes me very excited about the future development of Kilchoman single malt.’ Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder and Managing Director;

The 2008 Vintage follows on from the sensational 2006 and 2007 Vintages released in 2011 and 2013. There was not enough to go around of these bottling’s and there is certainly not enough of this vintage.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: It’s maturing well, the peat smoke is amazing. Full of strength and power, lots of smokiness. Now wait a minute is that chocolate and allspice? Is the vanilla now popping out of this whisky like a tiny dancer? Then there’s that citrus fruit we’ve grown to love. Full marks on the nose.

Taste: Call me obsessed but this is nice, fruit and more fruit. apples, peaches and pears all perfectly ripe. There’s a delicate spice and a little smoked meat. The sweetness is delivered in toffee and honey complimenting the layers of smoke and vanilla. Maltiness throughout.

Finish: It has a long finish, plenty of oily texture and a sweetness that sits well with the smoke and the citrus. Fresh and malty just makes this an excellent dram.
