Ardbeg Dark Cove Ardbeg Day Release Limited Edition 2016 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml            ABV: 46.5%           Age: No Age Statement           Country: Scotland

Every year we are blessed with a limited edition bottling to celebrate a special day in our calenders, Ardbeg day! The hype starts around 2 weeks prior to the event and limited edition cask strength bottles start to do there rounds of the bars and Ardbeg Embassy’s around the world. On Ardbeg day we get to celebrate the smoky tasty goodness that is Ardbeg and realise which friends we share this entriguing taste profile with.

Then after Ardbeg Day we are graced with another limited edition bottling of the Ardbeg Day release however this one is bottled at 46.5% instead if cask strength and in this whiskies case an absolute gem.

This years release was named Dark Cove, a name given to the bay where smugglers were once hard at work transporting illicit distilled goods to the mainland of Scotland. This bottling remembers the past and the days before even the Ardbeg distillery was founded, always remembered as part of Islay history, whisky history.

The Ardbeg dark Cove is matured in dark sherry casks and in ex-bourbon barrels and could be the darkest Ardbeg ever!

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: As soon as you open this bottle it screams peaty Ardbeg, a classic aroma. You can smell the charred oak, the dried fruits, dark chocolate orange freshly peeled from its foil. There’s plums, rhubarb, blackcurrants and with water some linseed oil appears.

Taste: What a great mouthful of flavours that work so well together. Stewed fruits, raisins, currents, dates and figs. Lashings of sherry and smoked meats with a salty, seaweed sensation. There’s nutmeg and ginger, plenty of peat smoke and charred oak. Delicious!

Finish: What we experience here is long and lingering. Sherry and smoke, coffee and toasted nuts, black pepper and spice. More, more, more.
