Black Snake is produced from a vatting of casks finished in a sherry butt. Each cask used in this vatting was individually tasted and selected by Blackadder, as was the vatting before it was bottled.
Each individual vat of Black Snake has two-thirds drawn when bottled and then more whisky is added for further maturation. From time to time the sherry butt is renewed. All bottles from this vatting of Black Snake therefore contain some spirit that was in the original filling of the sherry butt.
Blackadder proudly calls their Black Snake whiskies “VENOM”
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Plenty of raw spirit and acidic features. Rich tea biscuits dunked in tea. American cream soda meets choux pastry and creme anglaise. Has a sulphury edge.
Palate: Dried fruits of raisins, figs, dates and blueberries. Burnt orange peel but this is very subtle. Creamy on the palate perhaps buttery and juicy. Some bittersweet chocolate and pickled ginger. Vanilla combines the flavours as does delicious malted barley sweetness.
Finish: Great length with a touch of spice and vanilla.
