Cragganmore is a Speyside single malt distillery situated in Ballindalloch in Banffshire, Scotland. Founded in 1869 by John Smith due to its proximity to the Craggan burn and close to rail infrastructure. John Smith was a very experienced distiller having worked for The Macallan, The Glenlivet, Glenfarclas and Wishaw Distilleries The local railway is no longer in use and it is now a fine place to take a bottle of Cragganmore and walk though the beautiful local forests. Cragganmore is owned by spirits powerhouse Diageo.
Released as part of Diageo’s Special Release 2020 series this Speyside number was matured in refill ex Bourbon casks and new fresh-charred casks for 20 years before being bottled at 55.8% cask strength.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Tropical fruits of melon and green banana, poached pears and vanilla with faint hints of sandalwood and leather.
Taste: Creamy and smooth with bread and butter pudding, pecan pie and cracked black pepper.
Finish: Melba toast, sweet chilli and black pepper.
