The Edradour Distillery is situated in Perthshire which has been famous through the years for its small farm distilleries but now Edradour distillery is the last man (or lady) standing. It once boasted to be Scotland’s smallest distillery but after an expansion due to demand it is now thought of as Scotland’s Little Gem. The production, which also makes the whisky so unique was once 600 litres per year but now it can produce up to 160,000 litres per year. The name Edradour coming from the Gaelic ‘Edred dobhar’ meaning ‘the stream of King Edred’ who we believe may have been Pictish chieftain in the Dark Ages or a Roman legionnaire who liked this very delicious malt whisky. The distillery was founded in 1825 by local farmers and is currently owned by Signatory Vintage Scotch Whisky who purchased the distillery in 2002 from Pernod Ricard. You should expect a creamy malt whisky with hints of mint, nuts and usually has a port or sherry influence.
This single malt whisky was distilled at the Edradour distillery in the year 2000 and initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. It was then finished in ex-wine casks which previously held Barolo wine. Bottled at 56.5% abv and only 578 bottles produced.
