The lads and lassies at the Kilchoman distillery have again produced an exceptional limited edition single malt whisky. Prepared with peated malted barley they distill their beautiful fresh spirit and then select some of the best casks around.
This time they have sourced 17 casks which previously held Madeira and matured the spirit in these for 4 years. The flavours of the Kilchoman spirit have married perfectly with the flavours from the cask and produced a whisky of small yield but exceptionally tasty.
Distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2015, it has been bottled at a perfect 50% abv and has not been chill-filtered. This whisky is something extra special.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: The fresh strong lemon and citrus notes we relate to Kilchoman are still there.
Palate: The nose of this Kilchoman single malt marries well with the caramel sweetness of the Madeira, there’s a sweet nuttiness blending with the peat smoke and chocolate character sneaking through. The chocolate character fills the mouth with the light smokiness and the delivery of a slight bitter characteristic expects salt to finish this whisky off, and it happens. Salted caramel chocolate and rounded nuttiness.
Finish: The whisky is rich and flavoursome, there’s stewed fruits, notes of orange peel and peach, plenty of peat smoke and a little walnut oil.
