Bruichladdich Aged 28 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky Batch 19 – That Boutique-Y Whisky Company (500ml)
Volume: 500ml ABV: 48.5% Age: 28 Years Old Country: Scotland
Built in 1881 when puffer-supplied coal was available as an alternative fuel to local peat, it is likely that Bruichladdich was specifically designed to produce the purest unpeated spirit possible. The great Alfred Barnard supports this view with a tantalising clue – the Laddie is the only distillery on Islay that he does not describe as drying its malt using peat in his fascinating exploration of the island’s distilleries in 1885. Falling on hard times with whisky demand low and plenty of surplus then owners Invergorden shut the distillery down in 1995. Re-opening again in 2001 it was sold to Remy Cointreau in 2012 which started to invest heavily to refurbish the distillery. An onsite maltings is currently being built at the distillery to allow for a 100% Islay grown, malted, distilled and matured spirit.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
With exciting labelling and the whisky inside some of the best we’ve had from this distillery, there’s no walking by this one. If you’re a Bruichladdich fan don’t miss out. Batch 19 is a release of 1,123 bottles all bottled at 48.5% ABV and highly sought after.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Chocolate ganache poured over a freshly cooked sponge with warm cherry jam and black forest gâteau. This whisky is extremely inviting.
Palate: Dried dark fruits and a bitter coffee taste on the tongue lead to warming spices and smooth sweet and creamy caramel.
Finish: Berry jam and summer berry pudding, bitter dark chocolate and baking spices. Simply outstanding!
