Glen Moray 1991 Aged 30 Years Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Hidden Spirits (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 50.1% Age: 30 Years Old Country: Scotland Founded by Andrea Ferrari, Hidden Spirits is a relatively new Italian independent bottler and online whisky shop, which prides itself on the meticulously careful selection of its bottlings. Hidden Spirits has its bottle labels designed by different Italian artists, and offers a variety of expressions under several series: the Highproof Collection of cask strength single casks over eight years of age; the Hidden Spirits Classic collection of single casks of varying strength over eight years of age; and the Young Rebels collection of single casks under eight years old. Glen Moray has a long wonderful history and it is a brand we are all (or should be) quite familiar with. The distillery was established in 1897 then closed in 1910 then reopened again in the 1920’s. The distillery is found in the town of Moray near Elgin and is bounded by the Moray Firth to the north. Distilling in this area is a major local industry and the Glen Moray distillery has always played a big part in local employment at the distillery and also preparing the ingredients which are grown locally. You should expect oatmeal, shortbread, blackcurrants and a lemony grassy flavour, A splash of water and there is a wonderful hint of heather. This single malt whisky was distilled in 1991 at the Glen Moray distillery before being placed in a single ex Bourbon Hogshead and left to mature for about three decades. In 2022 it was bottled at 50.1% abv with only 172 bottles produced.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Pineapple juice, beeswax, coconut roughs, freeze dried raspberries, yellow pears, nectarines. Palate: Coconut shells, fig leaves, nectarines, apricot kernels, lime zest, peppery. Finish: Gorgeous and delicately reduced malt, syrupy mouth feel that lingers elegantly with nutty spicy characters of the grist.
