Dalwhinnie 1989 Aged 30 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 2020 Special Release (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 51.9% Age: 30 Years Country: Scotland
The Dalwhinnie Distillery has a long history dating back to 1897 when the product was first known as Strathspey whisky. Owned by Diageo it produces around 2 million litres of spirit annually. The distillery was completely refurbished in 1986 and then a visitors centre created 5 years later.
The name Dalwhinnie means ‘meeting place’ in Gaelic and this distillery is the second highest in Scotland, sitting 1073 feet above sea level. In most publications it will be referred to as the highest but Braeval distillery near Glenlivet is the highest recorded at 1665 feet above see level. A distillery so high is very unusual as one of the main ingredients is water which generally flows downhill being why most distilleries are found in glens or on the coast.
This Diageo Special Release bottling was matured in refill ex-Bourbon Hogshead barrels for 3 decades. This whisky brings a peak of perfection to the normal single malt produced at this distillery. Presenting butterscotch, boiled sweeties, orchard fruits and with peppery spice and a creamy finish.
