Highland Park 40 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 43.2% Age: 40 Years Old Country: Scotland
Welcome to Scotland’s most northerly distillery situated on Orkney a large Island of the coast of northern Scotland. In the 18th century an infamous smuggler called Magnus Eunson operated an illicit distillery. When Magnus was caught one of the men who captured him was excise officer John Robertson who took over the running of the distillery in 1816. The distillery was founded in the 1790’s so this makes it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Every part of production here was done by hand and even today Highland Park still take time and hardwork by producing malted barley with tradition floor maltings. Highland Park is now owned by the Edrington Group and William Grant & Sons, it produces 2,500,000 litres of whisky annually. The distillery now has a very good visitors centre which was awarded 5 stars as a recognised attraction.
We now welcome a new packaged single malt whisky which has been maturing in the Highland Park warehouses for no less than 40 years. These casks were originally laid down prior to 1979 making the whisky inside quite rare. The whisky industry in Scotland was not producing all that much in this era and the barrels sourced were of high quality. In the final 10 years of maturation the Highland Park distillery has used first-fill sherry casks to add extra depth and richness to this very limited and rare whisky. A limited batch release with an ABV of 43.2%. A very collectable bottling.
