Tomintoul distillery is built in the highest village in the highlands of Scotland and can sometimes be very hard to access due to the road being blocked with snow and ice in the winter. However hard it is to get here the storage facilities at Tomintoul are huge and boast a warehouse that can accomodate ten million litres of malt within the grounds. The water source is the local Ballantruan Spring and with this water they produce about 3,000,000 litres of spirit annually. The current owners are Angus Dundee plc and the distillery has four stills to produce the spirit. This spirit is mainly used and a very valuable contribution to Whyte and MacKay’s blends.
This single cask single malt whisky was distilled on the 19th of February 2001 and left to mature for no less than 20 years in a premium first fill Port Pipe. It was bottled in May 2021 with only 747 bottles being produced for worldwide consumption. It was bottled at 58.1% ABV to allow for the whisky connoisseur to enjoy this whisky at its finest.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Raspberry conserve, hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and clove with toasted oak.
Palate: Raspberries and blueberries, maple syrup, strawberry mousse with nutmeg and cinnamon spice.
Finish: Long with strawberry ice cream and stewed blackberries.
