A tail of two distilleries.

Glengyle Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Campbeltown, Scotland. It was established in 1872 by William Mitchell, a member of the Mitchell family, who were prominent whisky producers in the Campbeltown region. The distillery operated until 1925, when it was closed due to the economic downturn and prohibition in the United States. In 2000, the Mitchell family’s great-great-grandson, Hedley Wright, acquired the Glengyle Distillery and began a project to restore it to its former glory. After a significant refurbishment, the distillery was reopened in 2004 and began producing whisky under the Kilkerran brand name. Today, Glengyle Distillery produces Kilkerran single malt whisky using traditional methods and techniques. The distillery has its own floor maltings, which provide locally-sourced malted barley for use in the production process. The whisky is distilled in two copper pot stills and aged in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks. Kilkerran single malt whiskies produced by Glengyle Distillery are known for their complexity, with flavors of fruit, honey, and smoke. The distillery produces a range of expressions, including 12-year-old, cask strength, and limited edition releases.

Glengyle Distillery is one of just three active distilleries in Campbeltown and plays an important role in the revival of the region’s whisky industry.

On this wonderful tasting we will be joined by David Allen, Director of Sales & Marketing at Springbank/Kilkerran. David is responsible for overseeing the sales and marketing operations of the distillery, including the promotion and distribution of Kilkerran and Springbank’s range of single malt whiskies. As Director of Sales & Marketing, David Allen works closely with distributors, retailers, and consumers to promote and educate them on the unique characteristics of Kilkerran/Springbank whiskies. He also participates in industry events and tastings to showcase the distillery’s products and meet with fellow whisky enthusiasts. With over 25 years of experience in the spirits industry, David Allen brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role at both the Kilkerran and Springbank distilleries. Prior to joining Kilkerran/Springbank, he held various senior sales and marketing positions at other leading spirits companies, including Edrington and William Grant & Sons.
