Kilchoman Sanaig 2020 Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Volume: 700ml           ABV: 46%            Age: No Age Statement           Country: Scotland

The Kilchoman Distillery was established in 2005, Kilchoman (pronounced Kilhoman) is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Based on a farm on the rugged west coast of Islay, Kilchoman is the first distillery to be built on the Island for 125 years. Kilchoman gives everyone the chance to see what is best about the grass-roots traditions of malt distilling. As well as being one of only a handful of distilleries still practicing floor malting, they also grow their own barley at the distillery, completing all parts of the production process at the distillery – from barley to bottling.

Sanaig is the name of a small rocky inlet just north of the Kilchoman distillery. It’s very fitting to name this expression Sanaig as the inlet is an excellent place to explore and develop your love of Islay. Salty sea air, seaweed, dancing fields of barley. The fine sands and rich luscious colour of sunsets blended with the howling winds. It’s simply a stunning experiencing, nature at its finest. Maturing the whisky in about 25% bourbon barrels and 75% sherry barrels. Malting the barley so it has just the right amount of smoke. The distillation is light and fresh as always. It’s non chill-filtered and is natural in colour. Bottled at 46% abv and recommended by distillery founder Anthony Wills.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Tropical fruit notes of pineapple and paw paw, dark espresso and dunnage warehouse earthiness, Toffee crisp bars and wafts of smouldering peat and subtle spice.

Taste: Tropical fruits and hints of peaches and pears, chocolate crispies with raisins and summer berries, bold smoky peaty notes and freshly cracked black peppercorns.

Finish: A long and smoky journey delivering seaweed and salty sea spray.
