You can almost hear the heartbeat of whisky as Macallan lies in the central district of whisky making territory. This distillery which was built in 1824 near the river Spey in a tranquil Speyside setting is owned by Edrington & William Grant & Sons. Now Macallan 50 Years Old is most famous for being James Bond’s favourite dram so something special is truly happening behind the closed doors of this distillery which is magical. Macallan is a name in whisky that is held at the highest regard and delivers time and time again.
The Macallan have released this 12 year old single malt which now sits at the start of the new Triple Cask range which has replaced the Fine Oak range. Matured in a combination of European oak ex-Sherry casks, American oak ex-Sherry casks and American oak ex-Bourbon casks. Bottled at 43% abv and non chilfiltered.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Vanilla sponge cake, buttered scones, toasted oak and freshly cooked gingerbread men.
Taste: Dark fruits of raisins and sultanas, ginger nut biscuits, dark chocolate and citrus.
Finish: Polished oak and honey sweetness.
